WORLD WAR II - NONFICTION
"The Rock of Anzio; From Sicily to Dachau: A History of the 45th Infantry
Division" by Flint Whitlock
This is an outstanding and highly readable account
of one of the American Army's best divisions in World War II. The division was
comprised of three national guard regiments, two from Oklahoma, and one from
Colorado. The unit took part in the Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, and Southern France
amphibious assaults. They fought in central Italy and into Germany, suffered
heavy casualties, and spent more time in the line than most other American
units. These guys were GOOD and this is a fitting tribute. The book contains
many maps (not the confusing kind) and fascinating pictures. This history is
glued together by personal accounts from many veterans of the unit.
