AGE OF SAIL - FICTION

"Doctor Dogbody's Leg" by James Norman Hall

Avast mates! If you ever read books about the age of sail, you have to read this one. In my opinion, books do not get any better than this. James Norman Hall was a genius! This book is incredibly funny, is filled with great colorful characters, and contains a lot of accurate history mixed in the unbelievable lies of Dr. F. Dogbody.

The scenes are set in the Yellow Turtle Inn, where Dr. F. Dogbody meets his retired friends and astounds them (and the reader) with tale after tale of how he lost his leg. Each tale is more outrageous than the previous. His tales involve travel around the world, meeting great historical figures, participating in famous naval engagements, cavorting with many colorful characters, and almost believable fabrications of often-outrageous nature. How did he lose his leg?

James Norman Hall was also co-author of "Mutiny on the Bounty", "Men at Sea", and "Pitcairn Island".
